What is concrete panel?

 

Last time and before, we wrote and uploaded two blogs of「What is wood wool cement board?」and「On veneer board(lauan plywood)　Japanese」.

What on earth is plywood?

 

Plywood is a material of wood board stripped thinly, then sticked on together by adhesive.

As typical plywood, there are veneer plywood, Japanese shina linden plywood, and so on which is so-called「lauan plywood」, concrete panel which we are explaining and so on.

 

As the opposite meaning, it is solid wood. It is a manufacturing method of a piece of log cut out as it is. So, as having its own kind feature, but basically, woody texture itself is utilized as it is. So, it is going to be finished with warm feeling.

 

As the biggest feature of plywood, it is dried to a certain degree of moisture content, crossing the wood fiber direction, the angle of each board is crossed and changed. Therefore, comparing with solid wood, the feature of plywood can be said that there is little crook or shrinkage, and durability is enhanced.

Since solid wood is cut as log itself, it is necessary to use a good quality wood grown to a certain degree. However, as plywood can be made by stripping thin material, its material cost is low too.

In addition to these basic performances, by neatly finishing surface, finishing decoratively, or only simple finishing, it is being used for various places at the construction interior materials.

 

As to veneer board which we explained last time(Japanese), it seems that it can be said the most efficiently used plywood as interior decorative backing material, and DIY(=do it yourself) material.

 

What is concrete panel?

 

A kind of concrete panel. Looking the side surface, as wood is sticked together, you can recognize it is plywood.

 

Literally, concrete panel was used for the molding of pouring concrete into steel.

In order to support concrete which is vigorously poured into, as it has relative strength and water proof performance, it is also used as interior decorative material besides DIY and concrete molding, and also for operation workers’ foot used for curing ng at the site not to drop down at the muddy soil now.

 

However, from the sequence of concrete molding used before at the site originally, the finishing of surface is rough often, so it is not easy to adopt it to finish as it is.

Besides, by supposing to be used at site, there is a concrete panel of resin coating on the surface at the finishing place.

But, it is not supposed to be used at the finishing place, so, it cannot be said as beautiful finishing result. So, it is a kind of board material which requires a knack for finishing.

 

Big differences from veneer plywood

 

Veneer plywood surface image picture. The surface is rough, without concrete panel like strength, but the material is still the same.

The biggest difference is its strength. Veneer plywood is used for interior decorative backing or (mainly) finishing DIY. It is thin material often, so, if small screw is driven into it, it can be cracked often.

 

As for concrete panel, it is often fixed firmly, At the place where is required to keep firm strength, concrete panel is adopted・used.

As above-mentioned, the surface finishing is often split finely, or simple decoratively finished. So, if it is used for finishing, you should be careful.

 

However, the same lauan is often used both for making veneer plywood and concrete panel in many cases. It is considered that the understanding may be correct as the names are different according to the thickness and quality standard.

Therefore, there are quite a few contractors and technical workers who simply call high durable concrete panel as「veneer」.

(Incidentally, when simply calling「veneer」, it is pointed as a rotary cut strip piece of wood, and as the original name, calling「veneer plywood」is correct. )

 

 

 

Summary

 

This time, we so far explained concrete panel as above.

 

It was originally used as concrete molding. However, we feel as if it is like「Highly general purpose panel board material」now.

 

According to the usage and used place, there are many conditions to clear a certain standard, and the minimum thickness are determined in advance too.

So, please be careful when you use it for DIY and so on.

 

Same as lauan plywood, concrete panel is a popular material for DIY too. Still, the both are sometimes suitable or unsuitable for finishing usage. As the surface is often split finely, if you use it by yourself, please be careful of hurting and work failure.

 

Brief summary

・Concrete panel is a kind of veneer plywood. Depending on its product, water resisting performance and durability are high.

・Its official name is「concrete panel」. Originally, it started to be used as plywood for concrete molding (Casing which concrete is poured into steel. )

Its surface finishing is rough.  As the cost is low, it is a popular board material as a substitute for interior decorative backing material, panel substitute, and for DIY too.

・Same as veneer plywood, it is often made by lauan wood. It is simply treated as「Highly durability and water resistant performance veneer plywood」like recognition.」

 

It has various features, merit・demerit. As its usage and the place of direction are different from gypsum board and so on, it can be said to be an often used material for interior decorative work.
